About SketchDeck.ai
SketchDeck.ai builds SketchDeck (formerly LIFT), AI takeoff software for structural steel fabricators. SketchDeck reads construction drawings and does the manual counting and measuring, so estimating teams finish takeoffs in minutes instead of days and bid on more work with the same people.
Over $25 billion in projects has been bid through SketchDeck. Customers include fabricators like King Steel, whose Vice President of Estimating Troy Ernst says, “It’d be awful not to have [SketchDeck]. We’re relying on it now.”
The role
We’re hiring an Account Executive to own new-business deals from first demo to signed contract. You’ll sell to steel fabricators across North America, from 20-person shops to $1B operations.
Your buyers are estimators, estimating managers and owners who know their trade deeply and are wary of software that promises too much. The job is to understand how their estimating department runs today, show them SketchDeck on their own drawings, and build a business case they believe. You’ll work closely with our founders, marketing and customer success, and your feedback will shape how we sell and what we build.
What you’ll do
- Run the full sales cycle: discovery, tailored demos, trials and proofs of concept, pricing, negotiation and close
- Run demos on prospects’ own blueprints and tie SketchDeck’s output to their bid volume, win rate and estimator hours
- Build ROI cases for owners and executives, such as payback period and extra bid capacity without new hires
- Manage multi-stakeholder deals where the estimator is the champion and the owner signs
- Prospect and follow up on inbound leads from trade shows (AISC NASCC, regional steel events), ads and referrals
- Keep HubSpot current: deal stages, next steps, forecast and trial health
- Hand closed accounts to customer success with clear notes, and spot expansion opportunities
- Bring field feedback on objections, competitors and feature gaps back to product and marketing
- Travel to customer sites and industry events as needed
What you bring
- 3+ years closing B2B SaaS deals as a full-cycle AE, with a record of hitting quota
- Experience selling to technical or operational buyers, not only IT or marketing
- Deal sizes in the five- to low six-figure range with 1–6 month sales cycles
- Strong discovery skills: you ask good questions and listen before you pitch
- Comfort learning a technical product well enough to demo it without a sales engineer
- A consultative, low-pressure style that earns trust with skeptical, experienced buyers
- Disciplined pipeline management in a CRM (HubSpot preferred)
- Clear written and verbal communication, including with owners and executives
Nice to have
- Experience selling into construction, steel fabrication, manufacturing or AEC software (for example Tekla, Procore, Bluebeam, STRUMIS)
- Background in estimating, project management or the trades
- Early-stage startup experience, where you helped build the sales process rather than inherit it
- Experience running trials or proofs of concept with defined success criteria
- Familiarity with AI or automation products
How we’ll measure success
| Timeframe | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| First 30 days | Know SketchDeck well enough to run a demo solo; learn the steel estimating workflow and our four buyer types; shadow calls and take over active deals |
| First 60 days | Own a pipeline of qualified opportunities; run demos and trials independently; close your first deal |
| First 90 days | Ramp toward full quota; forecast accurately in HubSpot; share a written view of what’s working and what isn’t in our sales process |
Ongoing, you’ll be measured on new ARR against quota, demo-to-trial and trial-to-close conversion, forecast accuracy and pipeline coverage.
